This book is bursting with practical insights that you can apply to your change efforts right away.

In the first part of the book, Dr. Dyer explains the root of excuses and negative thinking that cause people not to work towards change. He lists eighteen commonly used excuses, such as, It will be difficult and I’m too old.

One excuse that resonates with many people is, there will be family drama.

What can be gathered from the author’s explanation of this excuse is that a person must decide whether it is more important to pursue her/his goal or to live an inauthentic life.

It is often times easier to conform to your expected familial role than to step out of that box and live authentically.

The best feature of the chapter on Your Excuse Catalog is that Dr. Dyer offers positive affirmations for each of the excuses.

For instance, if your excuse is There will be family drama you could replace that excuse with the affirmation, I would rather be loathed for who I am than loved for who I am not.

Or if the excuse is I’m not smart enough, it can be replaced with the positive statement, "I am a creation of the Divine mind; all is perfect, and I am genius in my own right.”

Part two offers seven principles that will help you eliminate excuses. The third principle, Now, reminds us that all that we have is the present moment.

Excuses dissipate when we don’t judge ourselves in the present, but instead, simply be in each moment. The affirmation for this point is poignantly worded: I choose to stay fully present in the now, and this is the only place that I will come to know God.

In the third part of this book, Dr. Dyer presents ways to reinforce your new thought pattern.

This is a must read for anyone at the tipping point of changing their life!
