Connected to the True Vine
"I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.
You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you.
For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:1-5, NLT)
What does it mean to be connected to the true vine even after experiencing painful and tumultuous pasts?
You may have been planted in bad soil with your roots nearly choked out by persistent weeds that existed in the human form of family and friends.
Using the roots that remained in the soil, you may have tenaciously fought to survive, but then were pruned and trimmed out of your intended shape by the negative acts and words of others.
Yet, you survived.
The sun shined, rain fell and tender vines grew and coiled around your tattered branches giving you just the right amount of support needed to carry on.
At some point, the true vine forces you to recognize Him.
As God tends to you as His branch, He shows you that the purpose He intended for you from the very beginning supersedes any past misuse.
When you trust in Him, the soil you stand in will be purified.
You will be gracefully pruned and conformed to the purpose of the true vine.
This means that you can slowly allow yourself to adapt to your predestined purpose, peeling off the labels that others may have imposed upon you and flourishing in the Word of God.
Christ is the true vine from which to branch off and fulfill your divine purpose.
Although you may not have had the most pleasant and fruitful past, you will have a fruitful future if you remain in Him.
