Book review“The Shift: Taking Your Life from Ambition to Meaning”
by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
I read this book in one sitting; it was surely a page-turner (about 112 pages).
In four chapters, “From…Ambition…To…Meaning,” respectively, the author raises awareness of life’s transitions, beginning at intangible Spirit and resulting in the ever-revealing purpose of our present, ultimately restoring ourselves back to Spirit.
Dr. Dyer incorporates inspiring quotes and personal stories that embellish his points and fills your spirit as you read.
Here are two of my favorite quotes from the book:
“I now feel that any big challenge is an opportunity to grow to a higher spiritual level, where gratitude gradually replaces remorse.” (p.69) I have been experiencing this transition, and it has made a positive impact on my approach to life each day.
The other quote is an old Turkish proverb, “No matter how far you have gone on a wrong road, turn back.” This is also encouraging. Once we realize we are walking down the wrong road, that realization alone gives us the grace to turn around and allow ourselves to be led to the road that is best for us. We don’t have to continue to do what no longer feels right – regardless of how long we’ve been doing it.
Ultimately, this book celebrates the growth process and encourages us to forge ahead and answer the call of our deepest meaning.
