Recovering from traumatic or daunting experiences can be a challenge. Here I've listed some local (Chicagoland) and national resources that can assist you in the process.

Sarah's Inn: Freedom from Domestic Violence


Sarah's Inn provides protection and resources for women and their children.

Some services include domestic violence emergency advocacy and support and abuse intervention programs.

Chicago Children's Advocacy Center



An advocacy center that streamlines the process of reporting and responding to child abuse. They also provide support to children and their families, aiding them in the healing process.

Test Positive Aware Network



TPAN's mission statement, "TPAN empowers people living with HIV through peer-led programming, support services, information dissemination, and advocacy. We also provide services to the broader community to increase HIV knowledge and sensitivity, and to reduce the risk of infection."

Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center



Offers social, medical, and support services related to prevention and care of infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS.



Crisis Intervention


(University of Illinois at Chicago)

This free service is offered to anyone who would like to explore a concern with someone who will listen objectively. You would speak to volunteers who have been trained through UIC's Paraprofessional Program.

As with any counseling session, what you share will be held in strict confidence.

The Spiritual Life Center


"The Spiritual Life Center has been established to offer safe, sacred space and support for transformation and healing. Our services are open to anyone in need, regardless of religious belief, race, age, or sexual orientation. The professionals of The Spiritual Life Center are committed to faith-based, spiritually-focused ministry for balanced living, spiritual discovery, and holistic healing."

They offer spiritual direction, counseling, psychotherapy, and additional services.

This service is free and confidential and services those who have been victims of sexual assault. You can exchange messages with a volunteer online through their online hotline at:

(National Human Trafficking Resource Center)

An advocacy program for those coerced into sexual slavery, and other types of forced labor of children or adults.
