Combat Infertility:
4 Fun Foods for Moms-to-Be

There are many factors that influence the conception process. Poor diet is at the top of the list for female infertility causes. Here are four foods that will help you prepare your body for carrying a child.

4 Fun Foods for Women's Pre-Conception Eating

Berry-licious

Berries are packed with antioxidants, which help to promote healthy cells. Healthy cells mean healthy eggs. Berries are particularly helpful for older moms-to-be because they help slow down the aging process. Some berries are known for neutralizing free radicals, fighting heart disease and cancers, among other ailments.

Berry Tip: Blueberries, Acai, Goji, Cherries, Blackberries, and Strawberries are just some of the berries that you can add to your diet to promote natural fertility. Toss them in your cereal or smoothie, or grab a handful on your way out the door.

Go Nutty

Nuts and seeds are the less fishy alternative to incorporating omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. Omega-3s make healthy babies because they are healthy fats, and they rev up mom's hormones - double duty!

Nutty Tip: Mix together cashews, almonds, and dried cranberries for a healthy snack. Or, carry a snack bag of walnuts or pumpkin seeds in your purse for portable healthy goodness.

Yam it Up

Who doesn't like yams? They are fortified with nutrients that can send your body into fertility overdrive - seriously. In some populations, like in Nigeria, yams are linked to twin births. Twins are not an absolute outcome of ingesting yams, but this root vegetable is low in unhealthy fats and high in nutrients, such as, fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin B6 - all of which prepare your body well for conception.

Yam Tip: Yams are a versatile vegetable. You can bake them, grill them, mash them, and even make your own healthy potato chips out of them. They taste really good cooked with herbs and seasonings. It's best not to add too much salt or sugar, as they combat a healthy pregnancy.

O is for Oysters

Oysters are not my favorite seafood, but I must tell you that they are chock-full of an essential fertility mineral: zinc. Ensuring that your body has an adequate amount of zinc each day puts you one step closer to welcoming your baby into this world. Zinc regulates your liver and insulin functioning, and it supports cell regeneration and DNA replication.

Oyster Alternative: Not too keen on the ideas of consuming slimy oysters? Here are some alternatives: eggs, lobster, yogurt, crab, beef, nuts, turkey, oatmeal, and other nuts and legumes.

A healthy diet is just one natural infertility treatment. Maintaining a healthy diet gets your reproductive system off to a good start! Implement daily exercise, a healthy living environment, healthy relationships, and a positive thought life, and you will be well on your way to welcoming your baby into this world.
